Chicago Sports Junkies’ 1st show, Q & A style…

Just so everyone doesn’t get confused,

M: Mattie T

M: What’s good ya’ll! This is ya boy Mattie T from BMSRadio. com & i am proud to announce that i have FINALLY kicked off my own syndicated sports show. Also pleased to introduce my fellow sports partner, the PHIL-sopher.

Let’s get started! Now i know the NBA & most fans are rooting for a Lakers/Celtics finals & so far, both teams are just 2 wins away from making this dream matchup happen. Which team in your opinion could have trouble closing out their respective series?

P: Oh I think Boston has the most trouble. Honestly, I believe Detroit is going to win the series. The Pistons are going to give Boston everything they want. Expect this series to go 7 games, regardless of who wins.

M: The Bulls’ coaching search continues on & so far, Mike D’Antoni & Rick Carlisle have already been scooped up by the Knicks & Mavericks respectively. Who would you like to see Chicago go after as their next head coach & why would he be a good fit for the Bulls?

P: I think Tom Izzo (Michigan State) would be the perfect fit. He preaches defense, which John Paxson will like; and he has always been able to adapt to the talent that he has. But if Chicago cant get him, Avery Johnson would be a good fit as well.

M: Speaking of the Bulls, they defied their 1.7% odds & have landed the 1st overall pick in June’s 2008 NBA Draft! We all know that John Paxson will decide between Michael Beasley & Derrick Rose. Who do you think will be the better fit for Chicago & why?

P: Derrick Rose. Now personally, I think Beasley is the better player. But currently, Rose is a better fit. All I keep hearing is that he is “Jason Kidd with a jump shot”. Anytime you can get that, you dont pass it up. A 6′4 point guard with lightning quickness and who jumps out the gym is very rare. You dont pass that up.

M: The Cubs also recently signed former Cardinal Jim Edmonds, who did receive a fair share of boo’s in his recent Cub debut at Wrigley Field. Do you think this is a good or bad move for the North Siders?

P: I dont think having a future Hall-of-Famer as essentially a 4th outfielder is a bad move. Did you see the catch he made against Houston? Eventually, his bat will come around, and he will end up being a great signing.

M: Let’s switch over to the White Sox. They were recently one of the hottest teams in baseball just a week ago, but have cooled down & is on the verge of being swept by the Angels. Overall, the AL Central doesn’t look that impressive to me. How can teams like Detroit & Kansas City be 7 games under .500, yet just 5.5 games out of 1st place?

P: That boggles my mind as well. People in Detroit are going crazy because the Tigers are playing so bad. But they have to look at the bigger picture; all they have to do is make the playoffs. After that, its a crapshoot. But the mediocrity of the division will definately keep the White Sox in the hunt….which means they ultimately have a chance to win it.

M: Aight, now we’re gonna switch over to the NFL! I know we are all tired of constantly seeing Cedric Benson’s mugshot on TV from his recent boating arrest in Texas. Do you think the Bears need to go in another direction & either release Benson or trade him? So far, he hasn’t even come close to playing like a 4th overall draft pick.

P: Point blank, Cedric Benson is a bust. The Bears need to just cut their losses and go in another direction. One of a GOOD running back’s greatest asset has to be having heart; and its clear that he has none.

M: Speaking of the Bears, Lance Briggs was at a recent Cubs game & said that he thinks Chicago could have a “very strong” defense if Mike Brown remains healthy all season. Your thoughts?

P: I totally agree with him. The defense wasnt really that bad last season. Their safeties just killed them though. With a healthy Mike Brown, I believe they can definately be a Top 10 defense….if not Top 5!

M: Before we wrap this show up, gotta ask you somethin’. Candace Parker recently made her WNBA debut as a member of the L.A. Sparks. Will she win a championship both on the collegiate & pro level?

P: There is no doubt in my mind. And it may come sooner rather then later. With a tandem like her and Lisa Leslie, I wouldnt be surprised to see them win it this year.
