The Cubs & SP Carlos Zambrano agreed to a 5 year, $91.5 million extension on Friday that will keep Zambrano on the North Side through 2012.
Zambrano is currently tied for 2nd in the NL in wins (14), 5th in innings pitched (168), 7th in strikeouts (139) & sports the lowest opponents’ batting average against (.231) among the NL’s two other 14-game winners in Cole Hamels & Brad Penny.

Carlos needs two more wins to tie a career-high with 16 victories, which he accomplished twice during the 2004 & 2006 seasons.

Zambrano has notched 73 wins over the past 5 seasons, which is 2nd in the majors only behind Roy Oswalt’s 78 wins.
Until then,
