Hill, (24 year old defensive end for the New England Patriots) was found dead on Monday afternoon in Lake Pontchartain, located north of New Orleans, LA.
Hill fell off a jet ski with a female friend on Sunday evening in Lake Pontchartain. No personal flotation devices were worn at the time of the incident. The female friend was rescued & taken to Tulane Medical Center.
Hill’s body was found at approx. 2:15 pm on Monday afternoon.
Hill was about to enter his 3rd NFL season, all with the Patriots. He appeared in 8 games last season & totaled 3 tackles.
Patriots CB Randall Gay played with Hill at LSU & is very shaken up by his loss.
“Knowing that I have to go back to work and go look at his locker this week, it’s tough,” Gay said.
Fellow LSU alum & Patriots DE Jarvis Green added “He was a funny guy. … He’d just sit there and talk to you, say some funny things off his head that’d make you laugh. He was good to be around.”
Hill spent a lot of his free time helping residents rebuild their homes in Louisiana as a result of Hurricane Katrina.
I cannot recall a single NFL offseason with this much tragedy.
Denver Broncos CB Darrent Williams was shot & killed on January 1st after leaving from a New Year’s Eve party in downtown Denver that was hosted by Marcus Camby of the Denver Nuggets.
The Broncos received more tragic news as RB Damien Nash collapsed & died after a charity basketball game in St. Louis, MO on February 24th.
We all remember the deaths of Korey Stringer (heat stroke) in August of 2001 & Thomas Herrion (heart disease) in August of 2005.
It’s scary that all of these players i just mentioned are African-American, but there’s nothing we can do to stop this.
Hill will definitely be remembered for his tireless efforts to help rebuild New Orleans after the devastating damage left from Hurricane Katrina.
Hill is survived by his fiance Inell Benn.
