The Big Apple. The City that never sleeps. A City that boasts over 8 million people.
Everyone here in Chicago knows that we separate our city by “sides”. (Ex: West Side, South Side, North Side, Northwest Side) or suburbs. (Ex: North burbs, West burbs, South burbs, Southwest burbs)
Well in New York City, they separate their city by boroughs. Let’s break down each borough:
The Bronx: Site of Yankee Stadium, Home of the New York Yankees. Home of the Bronx Zoo.
It is also the birthplace of hip hop.
It all started with Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five, DJ Kool Herc & Afrika Bambaattaa.
Some celebrites from the Bronx include: KRS-One, Al Pacino, Mary J. Blige, Fat Joe & Jennifer Lopez.
Rest in Peace to: Luther Vandross & Big Pun.
Brooklyn: Home of Coney Island, which is one of the oldest amusement parks in the country.
Some celebrities from Brooklyn include: Jay-Z, Mike Tyson, Busta Rhymes, Talib Kweli & Michael Jordan.
Rest in Peace to: Notorious B.I.G., ODB & Jackie Robinson.
Manhattan: Site of Madison Square Garden, Home of the New York Knicks & New York Rangers. Home of Central Park, which is 843 acres long.
Some celebrities from Manhattan include: Alicia Keys, Claire Danes, Fiona Apple & G-Dep.
Queens: Site of Shea Stadium, Home of the New York Mets. Home of the U.S. Open, which is held at Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing.
Some celebrities from Queens include: LL Cool J, Nas, Rev Run, Q-Tip & Ron Artest.
Staten Island: Connected to Brooklyn via the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge & to Manhattan via the Staten Island Ferry, which runs free of charge.
Some celebrities from Staten Island include: RZA, Method Man, Raekwon, GZA & Inspectah Deck.
That’s all for my history lesson of New York City! There are a lot of amazing places that i did not mention which i hope to get the opportunity to check out this weekend.
Being the sports fanatic that i am, i’ll be SUPER HAPPY if i come back with a nice souvenir from the NBA Store on 5th Avenue.
I hope that everyone has a happy & safe Memorial Day Weekend. I’ll get back with ya’ll early next week!!
Until then,
