White Sox DH Jim Thome was placed on the 15-day DL Sunday with a strained muscle in his ribcage. Thome leads the team with a .340 batting average & leads the AL in walks (25) & on-base percentage (.553).

Ryan Sweeney was called up from Class AAA in Charlotte to fill Thome’s roster spot. Sweeney appeared in 18 games for the White Sox last season & hit .229 with 0 HR & 5 RBI.
