The matchup for Super Bowl XLI is set!

Now let’s look at how both teams did during the NFC & AFC Championship Games.

Star Performer of the Game: Bears RB Thomas Jones, who ran 19 times for 123 yards & scored 2 touchdowns.

Bears LB Brian Urlacher on the team advancing to make its first Super Bowl apperance in 21 years: “For our franchise, this is big. They are a big part of this city, and what they did in ‘85 is huge. We have an opportunity to do that right now. We’re excited to have the opportunity to kind of put the (’85) guys in the background for a little while.”

Mattie T’s Thoughts:

This is a great win for the Bears after every single analyst over at ESPN.com picked the Saints to win the NFC Championship.

Even yours truly picked against Da Bears but i’ve learned my lesson!

For the first time in weeks, we saw a punishing defense that was forcing turnovers at will against a Saints offense that led the NFL in total offense.

Saints RB Reggie Bush provided the game’s most spectacular play, a 88 yard catch & run touchdown with 12:20 remaining in the 3rd quarter.

After Bush’s touchdown, the Bears scored the game’s final 23 points.

Chicago is now headed off to just their 2nd Super Bowl in franchise history.

Their only previous Super Bowl Apperance resulted in a 46-10 win over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XX, which resulted in the famous “Superbowl Shuffle” video.

Star Performer of the Game: Colts QB Peyton Manning, who completed 27 of 47 passes for 349 yards, 1 touchdown & 1 interception.

Manning on Patriots QB Tom Brady’s potential game-winning drive: “I said a little prayer on that last drive. I don’t know if you’re supposed to pray for stuff like that, but I said a little prayer.”

Mattie T’s Thoughts:

This turned out as expected, to be an absolutely wonderful game to watch.

New England becomes the first team to blow an 18 point lead in the AFC Championship Game & lose, failing to reach their 4th Super Bowl in the past 6 seasons.

Indianapolis is now heading off to just their 2nd Super Bowl in franchise history.

Colts QB Peyton Manning will make the first Super Bowl apperance of his career & will have a chance to join legendary quarterbacks such as Joe Montana, Brett Favre, Joe Namath, Roger Staubach, Steve Young & Terry Bradshaw to win on their 1st try during the big game.

Super Bowl XLI will also be the 1st ever game that will have 2 African-Americans opposing eachother as head coaches.

One last note before i sign off:

Bears DT Tank Johnson was cleared earlier today by a Skokie, IL judge to travel with the team down to Miami for Super Bowl XLI.
