MyFox Atlanta looked and sounded like retards the other day when they made their report on how the RIAA dropped in on DJ Drama and them like they were raiding Tony Montana or somebody. Keep in mind that these are prominent DJ’s from the hood that were selling MixTapes, which where adored by record companies back in the analog days. Imagine if the feds dropped in on Mike Love & The Diz, or Pharris or somebody. If you haven’t seen it already, please check out how crazy these cats sound:
C’mon now. They were really disappointed to not find drugs and guns I bet. Hey assholes, wanna know why? Because you busted in on some cats that were running a business, and they are not the gansta criminals that you are trying to make them out to be. The news casters obviously sound like retarded puppets, and this proves that the peeps from the RIAA are shitting on themselves because they see technology that they can’t control. They saw Drama and Cannin already on their way to having Howard Stern type control over the product.
Wanna know what else is happening? Hip-Hop DJ’s and producers are learning that this can be done well without using a single sample. Technology allows artist to get the product directly to the people on a very regular bassis without them having any say so… or even more importantly to them… they don’t get their cut. They’re loosing that money, power, and respect that they have so easily forced upon us all our lives.
The bottom line is that there is a huge difference between a bootleg CD and a "MixTape." Watch the "MixTape" continue to develop. Just watch. This incident will only make us stronger y’all.
Mixtapes will continue to dominate the hip-hop industry for years & years to come. If it wasn’t for the mixtape, Househould names like the afromentioned DJ Drama, DJ Kay Slay, DJ Whoo Kidd, DJ Envy, DJ Green Lantern & Big Mike wouldn’t even be existent.
If people want to hear raw, exclusive non-edited freestyles whether it’s a diss record or not, there’s a real good chance that you’ll hear it on a mixtape.
I personally enjoy DJ Green Lantern’s mixtapes simply because he can loop a verse from any MC, throw it over another beat & STILL make it sound dope. Not to mention he has some of the best intros i’ve ever heard, he almost reminds me of DJ Premier (who is also doin’ the mixtape thing) the way he’s able to scratch certain phases into his songs to make the record complete.
