The Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry produced film “Precious” won the top award at the Toronto International Film Festival recently.

The film stars Mo’Nique, Paula Patton, Mariah Carey, and Lenny Kravitz. It opens in theaters in November and it has high expectations.

The film, a gritty tale of the abuse and redemption of a teenage girl in Harlem, captured the festival’s People’s Choice award, which is voted on by film goers.

Last year the award went to best picture Oscar winner “Slumdog Millionaire.”

Other past winners of the award that have gone on to win the best picture Oscar include “American Beauty” and “Chariots of Fire.”

Directed by Lee Daniels, the previews make it look like Mo’Nique and Mariah Carey can act.

Based on the novel Push by Sapphire, the story looks like its gonna be a tearjerker. I cain’t wait.
